A large measure happened in Shanghai in 2007. There were Shanghai Special Olympic Summer Games in 2007 for masses who are mentally retarded. Many individuals from all the continents came to Shanghai to participate or just to look at the competitions. 7, 500 special athletes participated in Special Olympic World Summer Games, including the best of the 2.5 million athletes who competed in 165 countries to participate in the games. Many officials, relatives, volunteers, foreigners and journalists came to that contest. All participants were divided into SIX groups according to their disablement groups: 1. Amputee: Sportsmen with any extremity or extremities loss. 2. Cerebral Paralysis: Participants with non-progressive mentality impairment or alike diseases effecting brawn control or coordination. 3. Mental Disablement: Sportsmen with a grain harm in intellectual operation and associated limitations in adaptative behavior. 4. Wheelchair: Participants with spinal cord injuries and other disabilities which require them to be in a wheelchair. 5. Near-blind: Athletes with sight disability ranging from partial sight to total sightlessness. 6. Les Autres: Athletes with a physical impairment that is not strictly under any of the other five categories (the title for that class is the French for "the others"). Special Olympics athletes of categories competed in 25 diverse sports: aquatics, athletics, badminton, basketball, bocce, bowling, cricket, cycling, dragon boat racing, horseman, football, golf, gymnastics, judo, kayaking, lion dancing, power-lifting, roller, skating, sailing, softball, table tennis, team handball, tennis, volleyball, motor activities.
