Psychiatry is a medical science that studies and treats mental disorders in people. The term was first introduced by German physician Johann Christian Reil in 1808. Psychiatrists can treat many mental illnesses. Psychiatrists work across the world. Psychiatrists help mentally ill people to come out of depression, treat sleeplessness etc. There are many mental illnesses and phobias that require specialist medical treatment. Common mental disorders are anorexia, delusion, depression, fatigue, anxiety, confusion, erratic behaviour etc. ANOREXIA is a common psychological disorder, particularly in young females. It starts when a person, normally a young girl starves deliberately or eats less to lose weight. Yet, starving causes a compete loss of appetite and disastrous health problems, for example infertility in women. Schizophrenia is another severe mental disorder. It has been studied by psychiatrists for a long time. People suffering from the disorder percept the reality differently. Bizarre delusions, abnormal speech, unarranged thinking pattern, paranoia are typical of schizophrenic patients. People with schizophrenia normally suffer from severe depressions and anxiety disorders. Schizophrenics have a shorter lifespan than mentally healthy people. One of the reasons is a high rate of suicides among people suffering from the mental disorder. Although it is not hereditary, Schizophrenia tends to affect family members. Substance abuse, including hard drugs, alcohol, remains a common problem to be treated by specialists. Social problems, for example unemployment, poverty and homelessness, are often recorded, too. PSYCHIATRY handles mental disorders brought on chemical imbalances in the brain. The way people think, percept the reality, their beliefs and many other things mould their psyche that can be earnestly challenged due to circumstances. A psychiatrist is to revive the hampered balance through a specialist aid and medications. It requires a lot of effort and time to recover. Still, emotional traumas originated from childhood are difficult to treat.
