FASHION is an art that reflects life. Now and then we hear the names of Christian Lacroix, Paco Rabanne, Givenchy, Giorgio Armani etc. There designers influence our hair styles, what we wear, the way we put on makeup and even our habits. Designers determine our choice of clothing every season. There are several very crucial events in the fashion calendar known as fashion weeks. Fashion weeks are organized each season for fashion designers to show their latest collections in runway shows and for buyers to view the latest trends. Most importantly, they exhibit the fashion industry what is in fashion and what is out of fashion for the season. The most significant fashion weeks are organized in the fashion capitals, including Milan, London, New York and Paris where luxury clothes (differently called haute couture) are displayed. Haute Couture is a French word combination for expensive and fashionable clothes designed for women. Couture means dressmaking, sewing, or needlework, whereas haute stands for refined. Haute couture clothes are made for a particular client from high-quality, expensive fabrics and sewed by hand normally using time-consuming techniques. So, couture items are luxurious and chic. Depending on the haute couture and the garment, the price of a couture item ranges from $10, 000 for a blouse to $40, 000 and normally beyond that amount. The price is so high due to service, work, an exclusive design and superb materials of the highest quality. In addition, every customer will get a garment to fit them ideally. It takes around 100-150 hours to create a handmade luxuty suit and up to 1000 hours for an adorned evening dress with thousands of beads sewn by hand. A fashion house like Chanel, for example, will have about 150 regular clients ordering luxury clothes, and a couture house like Dior will make about 20 couture wedding gowns yearly Couture houses use only expensive luxurious materials, including expensive silks, fine wools, cashmeres, cottons, linens, leather, suede and furs. Apart from clothes, well-renowned couture houses make luxury accessories, such as hats, buttons, belts, gems, shoes, handbags. Those who can afford luxury clothes are glad to pay for exclusivity and the privacy offered by the system.
