Microsoft Word's document formats are denoted either by a. doc or. docx file extension. The newer ".docx" extension stands for the Office Open XML international standard for Office documents and is deployed by Word 2007 for Windows, Word 2008 for the Macintosh. Word allows to type, format and edit text to be printed or viewed electronically. Microsoft Word is an affordable word processing programme. The application offers numerous tools and features, and a great many users are familiar and comfortable with its Microsoft toolbars. The Word file format has tools to format fonts, add page numbers and clipart, as well as create headers and tables.
