Based on the novel by Walter Kirn, Up in the Air with George Clooney playing the lead role of corporation's downsizing expert Ryan Bingham focuses on interpersonal relationships. Ryan Bingham is employed to help ease the redundancy of long-term employees across the USA. He is serious about showing his proficiency and looks forward to the 290 days he is going to spend away from home. Still, within this time his world changes drastically. Along the way, both he and his colleague - a college graduate - Natalie played by A. Kendrick find out that they lack a lot of crucial things in their lives and have to learn how to turn into better people. Clooney's Bingham is a lonely business person whose private life includes random dates with good-looking females at countless airports where he is a frequent visitor. His wallet is full of credit cards from airlines that accumulate his mileage, hotel status perk cards that let him avoid dealing with disgruntled travelers and go straight to the front, and countless hotel room keys that are saved up and make him always try more than one before finally letting him in. Uninvolved in the life of family and relatives, Ryan is the brother who lives somewhere but cannot give a shoulder to cry on. His job means the whole world for him. He contemplates if he should, or really would like to, attend his sister's wedding – the little girl whose life he should have been involved with after the death of their dad. The story includes plenty of plot lines, details and sequences that are to be viewed fresh to have a full understanding of the film. What you might initially think is a witty comedy about an arrogant guy who finally becomes a nice man full of emotion is actually a combination of both comedy and drama. G. Clooney plays brilliantly and makes his character very true-to-life. He is good at playing both the supercilious workaholic obsessed by his career and the highly sensitive romantic able to display genuine feelings of love and sympathy to people around. The alterations he undergoes throughout the movie are interesting to trace and make you think about the genuine values of human life.
